COILS

What coil to buySometime in the last decade they came up with segmented coils. Why? The law of economics; they are easier and cheaper to make (not that you'll see a much of a price break, if any)So usually you put in electric to make a magnetic field, then pull out higher voltage. But there's one BIG problem; when used in a magneto, we are putting in the magnetism, NOTelectric. When they spin, magnetos put out higher and higher volts and frequency. When you ride, the coil tension increases per segment. So the segments are "stressed".  When one of "em fails (shorts out), that relieves some of the stress on the others. But if you have say, 10 segments, this will reduce your starting voltage by 10%. Not a problem, just kick the engine over 10% faster., you can do it!Another solution, close up your spark plug gap. To a degree, the smaller gap will have a harder time finding a good 'piece' of mixture to fire. Still not a problem, just take some 'butt breaks'between the more 'sessions' you will need to get'er going. Just think about that dollar you saved on the coil.At Morris Magneto, we decided to use the old school way of making coils, more insulation between windings. You know, how they were made when they lasted 30 or more years in thatold Sporty. So now it's your call....
